Want to give your wardrobe some high impact this fall, but a little low on cash? Then it's time to shop for a major accessory, girls. And forget those studs; we're talking some heavy-duty hardware on a handbag.

Here are some ways you can add newness to your wardrobe with statement-making fall accessories:

— Start with a new handbag. It's an instant way to make every day (and every outfit) feel more special. The soft satchels in oversized shapes create great wear-to-work handbags that can do double duty as file folders or diaper bags. But this fall, opt for out-of-the-ordinary details and embellishments: heavy metal hardware, high gloss patent, burnished leather or suede dripping with fringe.

— Check your neck. We're talking some major bites of bling around our necks for fall. There are bold, jeweled bib necklaces, chunky chokers or long, layered chains, which are all meant to be noticed. So pile them on — the more the better in this case. Create your own personal look to brighten up fall's dark neutral tops and jackets.

— Scarf it up! One of my all-time favorite accessories, the scarf comes in all different sizes and styles this fall ... so there's one to wear with everything you own. Colorful neon wraps, plaid stoles, metallic shawls, classic handkerchiefs or trendy snoods — all can dress up boring white shirts or black turtlenecks.

— Keep your hats on. Hats are back this fall in a big way. From elegant cloches to funky fedoras to tailored newsboy caps, choose a hat that's right for you and wear it with no apologies. You just might be mistaken for a movie star.

— Focus on the waist. With many of this year's silhouettes narrowing in at the waist, it's no surprise that the belt is back, too. From cinched-in coats to peplum jackets to blousy dresses, the belt is one of the best ways to put some flattering curves into your wardrobe. Wrap belts over cardigan vests or filmy bow blouses for a new twist.

— Pull on some tights. Don't dare be caught bare! If you've flipped through the pages of any fashion magazines lately, you're sure to notice that the models are in a dark mood, especially when it comes to their legs. While black opaque tights seem to dominate the leg scene this fall, there are many other dark berry colors that will add a new element to your wardrobe, too.

— Love those gloves. We're talking some drama here ... real arm candy ... and the longer the better. You don't have to only wear the over-the-elbow gloves to the opera; they are one of the most popular "over-the-top" accessories. In the softest of leather, long gloves are one way to give sleeveless sheaths or short-sleeved jackets a wonderful pop of vintage glamour. Shorter, cropped gloves are another hit this season. And, girls, the ones from Miu Miu's fall collection even come with studs.
