Become a Citizen Scientist As You Feed the Birds
- It's that time of year again — the weather's getting
colder, and it's time to start preparing for the winter. As our
gardens begin to go dormant, we can think ahead to the joy that
bird feeding will bring. Fall is a good time to wash the feeders
and to stock up on seed.
Big Weeds and Little Weeds - Q: Several weeks ago, I saw
your article in the Birmingham News. I wanted to find out some
tips about weeds that are around my house and what to use to
kill them. We live out in the country and have a lot of pine

underbrush.
Green Thumb Award Winners -

Summer Pruning Produces More Berries -

a plot of land that has not been mowed for a couple of years.
The weeds have grown pretty tall, but they have been mowed this
year in preparation for the garden. What can we use to kill the
weeds that would still allow us to possibly apply for an organic
certification in the future?
Tips for Spring Gardening - Wow, we made it
to spring. If you like plants or animals, the next three months
are wonderful months to be in North America. This is the season
most plants bloom and most animals have babies, so plan on
getting outdoors as often as possible.

plants for my garden is to look at the All-America winners for
the new year. If it has been tested and approved in the
