This is
National Procrastination Week, a time to put stuff off. But I put off so much
stuff last week, I have to put off putting off anything else until next week.

David Atchison became U.S.
President on this day in 1849 when Zachary Taylor refused to be sworn in on a Sunday.
Atchison, Pro Tempore of the Senate, automatically became President at noon, appointed his
close friends to the Cabinet, and went to bed early. His 24-hour presidency was the most
peaceful and most uncorrupt in U.S. history.

Chicago restaurant sculptor
Dwight Kalb immortalized actress Brooke Shields on this day in 1982 by sculpting her
likeness in 30 pounds of chopped liver. Then, since chopped-liver busts soon tend to
attract negative nasal attention, I assume Dwight and his friends spread Miss Shields on
crackers and ate her.

On this day in 1902 the American
Automobile Association was founded. If you had car trouble, they'd send out a free
tow-horse.

The U.S Congress met for the
first time on this day in 1789. Only 21 of 81 congressmen showed up -- the others said it
was a waste of time. Congressmen were a lot smarter back then.

On this date in 1971 Canadian
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau married Margaret Sinclair, who held no political office.
Though she did later dabble in foreign affairs with the Rolling Stones.

Today
Chastity (Chaz) Bono turns 41. As a female, Chastity went through a phase of
infatuation with rock musicians. The trick was finding one that her mom hadn't
dated.
Chastity Trivia:
Chastity was named for the 1960 movie "Chastity," which dad Sonny wrote and
starred Cher as a runaway teenager searching for the meaning of life. The movie lost a
half-million dollars and almost bankrupt the Bonos.

Football coach Knute Rockne was
born in Voss, Norway, on this day in 1888. Rockne was famous for giving inspirational pep
talks that motivated people to rise above themselves. He was sort of an evangelist in
cleats.

On this day in 1797 Matthew
Lyon became the first ex-convict elected to the U.S Congress. Of course, we don't allow
that anymore. Today, the acceptable method is to go to Congress first and become a
criminal there.

In ancient times, today was the
day the Egyptians venerated the sun god. Various ingredients like incense, myrrh, and
resin were mixed together and burned in his honor. This burnt mixture was called
"Kupli." Today when various ingredients are mixed together and burned, it's
called "dinner."

The federal government established Hot
Springs National Park on this date in 1921. Hot Springs National Park is in Arkansas. If
it was in Washington, it would called Hot Air National Park.
